Dream! Paint! Sing! ¡Sueñe! ¡Pinte! ¡Cante! (pequeños animales caprichosos) Art by Gwendolyn Morgan

August 3 @ 5:00 pm - August 31 @ 9:00 pm

After inheriting paint brushes and boxes from her grandmothers over a decade ago, Gwendolyn Morgan became more attentive to her creative process. As an emerging artist, she holds much gratitude for the encouragement of regional artists including Susan Bourdet, Flora Bowley, Margaret Hartsook, Alena Hennessy, Molly Hashimoto, Jude Siegel and Andie Thrams; these amazing women, artists and teachers focus on creative expression as a means for healing and wholeness. As a child, Gwendolyn dreamed of being a naturalist, artist and writer. As an adult, she imagined painting more realistically. Nonetheless, her whimsical storybook birds and animals have emerged again and again.

This is Gwendolyn Morgan’s second solo show at Angst Gallery. This year the multilingual animals are speaking in Spanish on behalf of all the children and dreamers of the Americas.

Gwendolyn was recently named as the 2nd Clark County Poet Laureate (beginning October 1, 2018). With a M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Goddard College, and a M.Div. from San Francisco Theological Seminary and the Graduate Theological Union, she has been a recipient of artist and writing residencies at Artsmith, Caldera, Into the Depths of Winter, and Soapstone. She has been published in numerous anthologies, blogs and literary journals. Crow Feathers, Red Ochre, Green Tea, her first book of poems, was a winner of the Wild Earth Poetry Prize, Hiraeth Press. Snowy Owls, Egrets and Unexpected Graces has been named as a 2017 Foreword Indies Book of the Year Awards Finalist in the Nature Category and Nautilus Book Award Winner, Gold in Poetry. She serves as the Manager of Spiritual Care at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. She celebrates collaborative work for equity and inclusion while encouraging integration of literary and expressive arts, music, and holistic modalities. Gwendolyn and Judy A. Rose, her spouse, share their Salmon Creek home with Naomi, a rescued Cardigan Corgi & Chesapeake Retriever mix..

With gratitude to the many artists, musicians, poets and writers who have supported her. Special thanks to Angst Gallery (Leah Jackson, Christopher and Toni Lumbrazo Luna, and Erin Dengerink); Clark County Arts Commission; and Christine Rice, artist (and graphic designer for J2) as well as community businesses and regional organizations who support the arts.

Angst Gallery showcases cultural events including art shows, musical performances, book launch parties, classes, workshops, and the monthly Ghost Town Poetry Open Mic. All art forms are valued. More than just a place to show art, Angst Gallery is also a safe space for community discussion, where all people are respected for who they are. We donate the use of the space to organizations that work for human rights and progressive social change such as Planned Parenthood, the YMCA/YWCA, Cascade AIDS Project, and the NAACP.
